Our Personal Tax and Self Assessment service is designed handle all your tax return needs ranging from initial registration to preparing and submitting self-assessment tax returns with the lowest possible tax liability.
We can help with most Personal tax and Self Assessment situations including :
Self Employed

Self-employed individuals operating as a sole trader and earning more than £1,000 will always need to complete a tax return. Please note you must tell HMRC by the 5th October before the 31st January deadline if you need to complete a tax return and you have not sent one before.
Ministers Of Religion

If you are a Minister Of Religion ( of any faith or denomination) you will need to complete a tax return if you are working on a self employed basis and, in certain circumstances, if you work as an employee. Ministers Of Religion have some special tax rules and our service will provide the relevant guidance and file the required HMRC returns on your behalf. If you have income from other sources (e.g. profits from renting out property) they will also be included in your tax return
Other Tax Circumstances

There are a number of less common circumstances where completing a tax return may be necessary under the self assessment regulations. The most common ones include those with earning over £150K under the PAYES system, those in receipt of child benefit but have income over £50,000, high-income individuals with untaxed income (e.g. dividends, interest, etc) and those who have sold, given away, exchanged or otherwise disposed of a capital asset (e.g. a second home, shares, a valuable painting, etc).
Directors & partnership members

Directors and partners have to complete tax returns as a matter of course. Indeed, directors of limited companies usually have untaxed income like dividends and consultancy fees so will need to complete a tax return and pay any taxes owing. Although partnerships have to complete a Partnership Tax Return they do not pay taxes on any profits . Instead, the partnership passes it`s profits or losses to its partners. Each partner then reports their share of the partnership's income or loss on their tax return and pays any tax due.
Side Hustles

A side hustle is simply a way you make extra money outside of your main job/source of income which include activities like selling online, freelancing, content creation and other gig economy endeavours. If you are earning more than £1,000 (and have made a profit) from a side hustle you may have to pay tax on this money by registering as self-employed and filing a self-assessment tax return. It must be noted that the HMRC now requires online selling platforms (e.g. Amazon, Etsy, Fiverr, Airbnb, etc) and other service providers (e.g. Uber, Deliveroo, etc ) to collect, share and report details of those making sales on their platform to HMRC. Therefore, it likely the HMRC will know how much you are earning anyway.
Tax Refunds

Our Tax Refund service will help you claim a tax refund if your circumstances mean you are due a tax rebate for some reason. The service caters for most tax refund situations including CIS Refunds, employee uniform cleaning and home office use, pay from your current or previous jobs, redundancy payments, foreign income, pension payments, etc. In many cases the claim will involve completing a tax return.
Landlords

Generally, if you make more than £1,000 in rental income you must complete a Self Assessment tax return and pay the tax on the profits like any other business. However, if your income from rental income is less than £10,000 and the profits are under £2,500 you may not have to complete a tax return. This is because HMRC may be willing to collect the tax due on the profits by adjusting your tax code (if you have an employment) or by simple assessment. There a many ever changing laws and regulations that landlords need to comply with. You should ensure you understand and carry out your obligation under these regulations as you can easily end up with costly legal problems
Foreign Income

If you are a UK resident with a permanent home (domicile) in the UK you will normally have to pay tax on foreign income you receive. Foreign income is basically any income received from outside England Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It includes items such as rental income from property abroad, dividends from shares held in overseas companies, salaries from overseas employments and the like. If you need to pay tax on your foreign income you usually need to report in a Self Assessment tax return. If you have already paid tax on your income(i.e. a foreign tax) you may, as a UK resident, be able to claim tax relief.
Direct Payments (Payroll & Tax)

Our Direct Payments service is designed to support Direct Payment Employers -i.e. individuals given funds by their local authority to take on a carer /personal assistant to help them with their health and care needs. We can help with the complexities of employing somebody (payslips, PAYE , contracts, compliance, etc) or taking somebody on as self employed. Where relevant, we can also manage the budget including handling the periodic returns to the local council and dealing with any financial or compliance matters arising.
If any of the above circumstances apply to you (or any other potential tax circumstance) please contact us to discuss what you need to do. In most cases you will need some level of professional advice as well submit a Tax Return to HMRC under the Self Assessment system.
Tax affairs in a mess?
If you find yourself unable to meet one or more of your obligations as a tax payer (e.g. unable to register on time or pay the full amount of tax due) please do not over stress.
